Vision Boards: Why You Should Have One and How to Make One

If you found the site through one of the vision kit boards around town, then here’s a big Texas welcome.

If you happened to be a regular visitor, Welcome Back. (E-mail your address to Danielle@AustinYogaTeacher.com  and I will send you a vision board kit. Free of charge.)

Picking up one of the vision board kits and putting together a vision board is one of the most wonderful things you can do for your creative self.

The vision boards have worked for tons of people and I’m a living testament they work. Every goal I wrote on my 2007 goal board has come true – in some way big and small. It works!

Supplies needed

The kit has scissors, glue stick and a dream booklet. You’ll also need two sheets of cardboard (you can buy at Walgreens for $1.50). And you'll need a stack of magazines. You can go to the library, Half Price Books, or you might already have some lying around.

How to Make the board

List all your major creative goals in the dream booklet. (Not sure about that. Give it a week. Take your booklet with you. As you set an intention to dream you’ll find that everything will start flowing out into the notebook.)

Once you have a nice idea list going, start looking through the magazines. Flipping through them as fast as you can and finding images that visually represent your goals. You’ll pull them. Speed is important here. You don’t want your censor coming in and telling you not to pull it. Go on first impulse. Pull quotes, pictures, colors, anything that calls – anything that reminds you of your goal.

(Some people also spend a week in this collection process, using everything from the feather they picked up on a nature walk to an old picture of the family that symbolizes strong relationships. You get the idea.)

After you’ve got your images and supplies, start assembling the board. Find a nice clear surface to work off of. Collage the images over the poster board using the glue stick. Have fun! Creativity counts here!
